Tegan and Sara released their new album Heartthrob today. You would like them if you're fans of Matt & Kim, Metric, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Mates of State, or Rilo Kiley. Or even Ra Ra Riot. The synths, the pop music, the joyful upbeat sound...it's all very catchy. And good work out music.
The New York Daily News review states: "“Heartthrob” represents
a major rethink on their style, a potentially far more commercial one.
Rather than the darting, nerdy guitar-based sound of old, they’ve gone
for something richer and deeper, found in the soft pillows of synth-pop.
Aided by producers as canny as Mike Elizondo (Maroon 5, Carrie
Underwood), they’ve adopted a total “I Love the ’80s” approach. Synths
of the Martha Quinn era waft and wash over the entire mix."
Sure, maybe it's a bit more commercial. But it's fun. Another solid new 2013 release.
