I'm tired of hearing Smashing Pumpkins, Pearl Jam, and Nirvana on DC radio. I loved those tunes back in college, but it's 2011. Here are some picks of what the radio should be playing.

The Civil Wars
The new Civil Wars album has generated a lot of attention due to the duo's strong debut, but mostly because of the tension between the pair. I'm not a huge fan, though I have enjoyed my first couple of listens of the self-titled album. Favorites include "From This Valley" and "Oh Henry." It has cross-over appeal--country, pop, folk. And the earnestness, the rawness, of both of their voices is quite endearing. Here's hoping a third album, someday, will be released by the pair.

Civil War of the Civil Wars
So the Civil Wars, a country folk stand-out from last year, are on break. So I'm not sure if it's a Ross and Rachel break, or a pause, or what. But "internal discord and irreconcilable differences of ambition" sounds kind of serious. I'm not a huge fan of theirs, but they were an up and coming duo.
Thankfully other favorite duos, like Mates of State and Matt & Kim and Tegan & Sara, seem like they are doing OK.
