Pitchfork released its top 100 singles of the year. Though there are a handful of songs I haven't heard, many others were quite familiar to me. The top picks, Holocene by Bon Iver and Midnight City, by M83, are good picks. Real Estate's "It's Real" also made the top 10. I saw Last Summer and Whirring on there, two other favorites of mine from this past year. Adele also received some love. "Someone Like You" is lovely, though it's a shame she has been so overplayed this year. She's a more deserving pick than so many other pop chanteuses, however.
NPR has a nifty mix of its favorite songs from the past year here. It is worth taking a listen to, because frankly, it is never too late to learn about new music. For example, I just "discovered" JD McPherson through an NPR list, and love him already. "North Side Gal" is download-worthy.
