Detroit Music

I've never been a bit White Stripes fan, though this NPR blog entry caught my eye. White Stripes has always been proud to be Detroiters, though they no longer live there. The author finds Detroit in "Little Room."
The White Stripes' "Little Room" is only 50 seconds long. Jack White sings about working on "something good" in his little room, only to have that something good move him to a bigger room, where he's lost and has to consider downsizing to recenter. It is riotous and lean. While it's almost certainly an inventory of personal success, even a manifesto on the subject, for me, in this moment, it is also about Detroit.
Kid Rock, of course, owns his Detroit-ness, too.  He's got a new anthem coming out for the Lions.  And of course, he's supporting Mitt Romney, another son of Michigan.

Paste also has this great list of Michigan music, which I have linked to before.

And, um, how cool is Kelly Clarkson? Lose Yourself.

Lots of good music from Detroit, and no longer just Motown.
