So the Grammys are as mainstream as anything, but I was pleasantly surprised by a few favorites that earned nominations last night. The album nominees are all solid--Black Keys, Frank Ocean, Mumford & Sons, Jack White, and Fun. Alabama Shakes, the Lumineers, and Fun all earned best new artist nods. Pop Vocal nominees like Kelly Clarkson, Florence + the Machine, and Pink were all tapped. Sure, there are always many missing links--no Justin Townes Earle? No Brandi Carlile? But at least artists (and I use that term loosely) like Justin Bieber were largely shut out. Granted, Carly Rae Jepson did earn a nod...can't expect perfection, right?
Maybe I will actually watch the show next year.
