I'm tired of hearing Smashing Pumpkins, Pearl Jam, and Nirvana on DC radio. I loved those tunes back in college, but it's 2011. Here are some picks of what the radio should be playing.

EW Covers Folk Rock
Entertainment Weekly had a feature in its most recent issue on the "Great Folk Rock Revival." The piece certainly gave a lion's share of the credit to Mumford & Sons, and it is somewhat deserved, since they've received so much attention. And I am a fan, of course, and I've purchased both albums. And hey, it is a style of music that I like. But I think groups like the Avett Brothers, Iron & Wine, and artists like Ryan Adams have been around far longer. And there's certainly a strong element of this in Dave Matthews. And smaller groups like Delta Spirit, Dawes, Cave Singers, artists like Brandi Carlile, etc. have been around even longer than Mumford. But any music that is not as insipid as Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus needs to be recognized, and I hope the lifespan is longer than the piece seems to think it will be.
