NPR Music has published its "best of" midyear list. Best songs and best albums. I think there is a lot missing, obviously. No National? No Laura Marling on the album list? Vampire Weekends, yes. But I would have included quite a few others. Maybe Villagers, maybe Frightened Rabbit, maybe even Shout Out Louds, which has grown a lot on me. And maybe Surfer Blood. Lots of new to me songs and albums are on both lists. Maybe Thao. Dawes.
I don't like mid-year lists, because six months from now, so much new has come out. I personally think 2013 has been an exceptional year for music, much better than last year. But it's early. And at least NPR started a debate.
