Friday Favorites

Band of Horses' "Knock Knock."

P!nk's "Blow Me One Last Kiss."

Joshua Radin's "Sky."

Admiral Fallow's "Squealing Pigs."

Stars' "Do You Wan to Die Together."

Ben Gibbard's "Bigger Than Love."

The Mountain Goats' "Transcendental Love."

And here's an interesting piece on what musicians last.
Another relevant example is the resurgent popularity of groups like Fleetwood Mac and The Band, resurgent elders name-checked by newcomers like Best Coast and the Lumineers. Right now, conventionally structured rock groups with charismatic lead singers only rule the moribund "active rock" scene where Nickelback still dominates. The coolest 21st-century bands from the Arcade Fire to Animal Collective (Collective!) have readjusted the group dynamic to be more non-hierarchical. Entities like the Band, who never had one clear front person, offer a different model by unassumingly arranging the old one's parts.

Friday Mix

I am back on the "We Are Hunted" wave today with a Fanfarlo mix. It's like Pandora but you can see the songs and skip ahead. Most of what came up is stuff I already have, like Bon Iver, Shearwater, Frightened Rabbit, Broken Social Scene, the Shins, Radiohead, Band of Horses, Arcade Fire Mates of State, etc. Bombay Bicycle Club, Fences, and Lemonade are some of the less familiar acts.

And I bought both Spiritualized and JTE last night. Good tunes for the Delta Shuttle up north.

Five for Friday

Bon Iver will be on SNL this weekend. That might even be worth recording (or finding online...who watches SNL, anyway)?

The Kills concert will hopefully be streaming here. Check out "Future Starts Slow."

New from J Tillman.

I really need to go to a music festival. Like Sasquatch.  Bon Iver, Head & the Heart, Shearwater, The Cave Singers, Blitzen Trapper, Blind Pilot, the Joy Formidable, Feist...um, all of my favorites. All of them.

Amazon's Free Music from Raising Artists is always such a good deal. Rumer, Hospitality, and Cloud Nothings are some of the steals they are offering for February.  Download now!

Music Weekend Edition

Some random music I have been enjoying lately...

"Christchurch Woman" by Justin Townes Earle, and new JTE too.
"Jesus" by Amos Lee. Yes, those two last songs came on shuffle while I was watching a segment on Tim Tebow on the treadmill on Monday.
"Bushwick Blues" by Delta Spirit.
"We Found Love" by Rihanna. Really. There are some popular songs that I do like, even if I won't own them.
"You As You Were" by Shearwater. Loving some Shearwater, lately.
"Still" by Great Lakes Swimmers
"Waiting for Something" by Nada Surf
