New Laura Marling

NPR Music is streaming the new Laura Marling album here.  This is interesting:
All of Marling's vocal and guitar parts on Once I Was an Eagle were recorded in a single day — especially remarkable, given how frequently they remain in the spotlight throughout the album's 63-minute running time. But the singer takes a longer and more important journey along the way: As these 16 subtly inventive songs unfold, her fearless, blood-and-guts earthiness makes room for warmth and openness that's even more complex and rewarding.
Tomorrow brings the National's release!

New Laura Marling

Consequence of Sound streams Laura Marling's new single.   "Where Can I Go" is tough and determined, and I am eagerly awaiting May 28 for the album's release.

Favorite Females

Three of my favorite female artists all have albums releasing this Spring. Eleanor Friedberger's Personal Record will be out June 4. The first single "Stare at the Sun" is available now for download.

Lissie, who is all over the place at SXSW, will release her next album in "early summer." Love her. And Laura Marling will release "Once I Was An Eagle" on May 27. So talented of a singer, especially for one so young.

Cannot wait for these releases!

More Marling

I listened to a stream of Laura Marling's recent DC concert.  She remains a big favorite of mine. I also heard another new Fanfarlo single, and I'm very excited that is one concert I'm actually going to get a chance to go to.

I'm sad, thanks to the convention, I will miss both Brandi Carlile and Foo Fighters. So many concerts, so little time.

Laura Marling

Laura Marling has a new album out, and itunes had her song "Sophia" as its freebie for the week. It starts slow and then builds up, great tune. She's young, only 21, but she's already made a name for herself.

What other female singer/songwriter types have I been a fan of over the years? Sort of the Lilith crowd?  Rachael Yamagata, Anna Nalick, Basia Bulat, Chantal Kreviazuk, Dawn Landes, Eleanor Friedberger, A Fine Frenzy, KT Tunstall, Sarah Jarosz, Sharon Van Etten, and Tift Merritt come to mind. There are "commercial" acts like Kelly Clarkson and Pink that are gutsy, too.  But seriously, we need these guys on the radio. Sara Bareilles and Adele are great, but already overplayed. Time for some fresh sounds!
